Get Two Free, Business Class, Round-Trip Flights With the New Iberia Card

Iberia just introduced a new rewards credit cards and everyone is excited (by everyone, I mean me and everyone I project my enthusiasm on). Back in November, Iberia became a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner. Which made sense because their partner airline British Airways had long been part of the program. Iberia Avios are actually quite valuable because the program requires fewer miles than British Airways Avios for many flights and doesn’t impose those insane fuel surcharges. Those alone are solid reasons to consider the Iberia Plus Visa Signature Credit Card. Of course, the card itself has several merits of its own:

Sign-up bonus: 75,000 Avios

The Iberia Credit Card offers a combined 75,000 Avios sign-up bonus. The first 50,000 is paid out after $3,000 spent in 3 months and the remaining 25,000 Avios is issued after $10,000 is spent within the first year.

If that sounds like a lot, just keep in mind that’s it’s essentially just $1,000 per month. You can easily meet this spending requirement my doing things like paying your car insurance bill and charging all household spending (including utilities, groceries etc.) to it. You can also pay your mortgage with a credit card through Plastiq (earn 1000 Fee-Free Dollars with my Plastiq referral link).

What can you do with 75,000 Iberia Avios? Since the program is distance base, there is lots you can do with it! For starters, you can fly roundtrip business class from New York or Chicago to Madrid for just 34,000 Avios during off-peak dates. The sign-up bonus would cover two tickets, which is incredible because what other credit card gives you enough miles for two international business class awards?

Category Bonus

The category bonus on this card is…ok. Cardholders get 3 Avios for every $1 spent on Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, LEVEL and OpenSkies purchases. All other purchases earn 1 Avios per $1. The problem is really that this 3x bonus isn’t that great. I’d rather earn 3x Ultimate Rewards from the Sapphire Reserve, which is a more flexible currency. Though, to be fair, there are two compelling reasons to put airfare on the Iberia Credit Card…

Travel Perks

When it comes to travel perks, the Iberia Credit Card really delivers – especially considering the $95 annual fee. Every calendar year that cardholders spend $30,000 on the card, they’ll receive a $1,000 discount voucher towards two tickets on the same flight. That’s a $500 discount on airfare every year, which is insanely generous.

The booking does have to be made at iberia.com/chase10, which is also where cardholders get access to a 10% discount on paid airfare. I did a test search for flights between Los Angeles and Madrid and found fares as low as $540 roundtrip in April and September. So with the Iberia card, this flight would cost just $80 for two people – that’s less than what you’d pay in taxes and fees to redeem miles!

Overall, the Iberia Visa Signature Card is awesome. The $1,000 flight discount voucher is beyond generous and the sign-up bonus can go a long way. I would absolutely recommend this card. That being said, I’d love to know your thoughts on this card. Please share in the comment section.
