Delta Flash Sale: U.S. to Hawaii Starting at 35,000 SkyMiles

For the last several months, Delta Air Lines has been running flash sales for SkyMiles members. You have to be ready with a stash of miles because these sales usually run for just a couple of days. This month is no different, and this time the flash sale is for flights between the United States and Hawaiian islands.

Award flights start at 35,000 SkyMiles round-trip in the Main Cabin and 44,000 miles in Delta Comfort+ for the following destinations: Honolulu, Maui, Lihue and Kona. Both Main Cabin and Comfort+ fares are on sale. Typically, low-level redemptions require 45,000 miles for a return flight to the Aloha State, and this sale represents a nice discount. However, not all departure cities get the same redemption rate, which makes this deal not really a deal for some travelers.

Let’s take a look at some examples.

Seattle to Kona

If you’re in Seattle, you can fly to either Lihue or Kona for just 35,000 miles in the Main Cabin. I’m seeing these redemption rates in August, but play with the calendar to see what other dates are available.

Los Angeles to Honolulu

Travelers from Los Angeles can fly non-stop to Honolulu and back for 41,000 SkyMiles. It’s not a terrible deal and saves you about 4,000 miles per ticket, but it’s not the greatest deal, either.

Is This A Great Deal?

In the past, Delta Flash Sales included some great mileage pricing for award flights to various destinations. However, this time the sale is a bit lackluster. Yes, some departure cities offer great savings, but others not so much.

It’s possible to book award flights to Hawaii with Air France Flying Blue miles and Korean Air SKYPASS miles with fewer miles than this sale. However, if you have an abundance of Delta SkyMiles and have no use for them, this isn’t a terrible deal, especially from the West Coast.

To book these flights at the low mileage costs, you must book your flight by 11:59 p.m. EST on April 12 and travel between Aug. 14 and Nov. 14 (blackout dates apply to some departure cities). Miles must be redeemed on Delta.com.
