My husband and I have had a pretty light year in terms of signing up for new credit cards. While we both got the new Hilton Aspire card when it came out, that’s about all we’ve gone after within the last twelve months.
Now that it’s been a while and our hard inquiries are as low as they will probably go, I think it’s time to sign up for some new travel credit cards for the sake of earning more signup bonuses. Which cards should we get? This is a question I ask all the time, and my answer changes nearly every day.
Still, I think I’m set on the following four cards at the end of this month – two for my husband and two for me.
The cards my husband will get are:
AAdvantage Aviator Business MasterCard
In total we have around 325,000 American AAdvantage miles right now. I am hoping to pay for flights for myself, my husband, and our kids to Australia or Southeast Asia next summer. We may also use 50,000 American miles to fly to Miami for our cruise this winter. For that reason and others, we need to keep earning more miles.
Right now this card is offering 50,000 miles right off the bat, and all you have to do is make a single purchase with the card within three months of account opening and pay the $95 annual fee.
Hilton Honors American Express Business Credit Card
Hilton Honors is another area where we’ve been focusing some effort lately. Thanks to our Hilton Aspire cards and some regular spending, we currently have almost 500,000 Hilton Honors points to burn. We also have Hilton Diamond status, which will come in handy for our upcoming stays at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort, the Hilton Sedona Bell Rock, and the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik.
This business card is offering 75,000 Hilton Honors points after you use your card for $3,000 in purchases within three months of account opening and another 25,000 Hilton Honors points after you spend another $1,000 on your card within six months of account opening. I want my hubby to take me somewhere nice with all our points next year, so the more we have the better.
Cards I plan to sign up for include:
Chase Ink Business Unlimited Card
Recently, Doctor of Credit reported that Chase will come out with an unlimited card that offers a flat 1.5% back on business expenses come May 20th. This card will reportedly come with a $500 signup bonus and I am finally under 5/24 (barely, supposedly?) according to Credit Sesame, so I am in. Or at least I will try be in if the card truly does come out. Stay tuned.
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
Last but not least, I am seriously considering applying for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card again. This card offers 2x miles for every dollar you spend plus 50,000 points worth $500 in flexible travel credit after you use your card for $3,000 in purchases within three months of account opening.
I love flexible travel credit because I can use it to pay for cruises, train tickets, Airbnbs, and more. Capital One has denied me in the past, but it’s been a while so I think I’m okay to try again. The worst they can say is “no,” although a Capital One denial is particularly painful since they place a hard inquiry with all three credit bureaus. We’ll have to see what happens and if I actually go through with it.
Which cards are you signing up for next? Why?
