InterContinental Hotel Deals to Nab Before the Summer’s Over

The new IHG PointBreaks list has been released, so get your points ready to book some of these discounted properties around the world for stays through Sept. 30.

One hundred twenty-six properties are included this time around, 67 percent of which are located in the United States. The list is considerably shorter than the one from last quarter, which included 170 hotels. Perhaps, peak travel season doesn’t allow for an extensive list of discounted hotel options.

Six month ago, IHG PointBreaks changed its structure from charging 5,000 points per night for all hotels on the list to dividing up the properties into tiers and charging 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 points per night, depending on the hotel category.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • 5,000 points – 21 properties, or 17 percent
  • 10,000 points – 68 properties, or 54 percent
  • 15,000 points – 37 properties, or 29 percent

Hotels of Interest on the New PointBreaks List

The famous River Walk is the best place to stay in San Antonio, Texas. It’s steps away from the Alamo as well as many popular restaurants and coffee shops. The Hotel Indigo San Antonio – River Walk is just the right place at 15,000 IHG points per night. A night outside of the promo period will cost you 30,000 points, so you can book two nights for the redemption rate of one regular night.

If you have Central Europe on your mind, a visit to Poland is a must. I spent a week there in June and recommend it as a travel destination full of history and delicious food. A trip to Poland isn’t complete without visiting its capital, and the Holiday Inn Warsaw City Centre is listed at 10,000 IHG Rewards points. The rate represents a 50-percent discount off the usual award night rate, and you can’t beat that for a hotel in the heart of the city.

For those looking to vacation in Paris this summer, the Holiday Inn Paris – Montmartre is a great choice located in my favorite part of the city. A standard room here goes for 40,000 IHG Rewards points, and you’ll redeem just 15,000 points as long you can find availability. I’ll be in Paris for a couple of nights in September, but rewards nights weren’t available for my dates.

For those looking to go off-the-beaten path, the Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea in Jordan is a great place to relax, rejuvenate and get skin treatments using the Dead Sea’s mud. The nightly rates here are 10,000 points, down from 20,000 points at a regular rate. With Petra and Wadi Rum, Jordan has no shortage of sights to see if you have time to explore the country.
