Should You Get the World of Hyatt Credit Card?

Recently, World of Hyatt and Chase announced a new credit card offering. The new World of Hyatt card, which came out the gate with a 60K signup bonus, rolled out with perks for elite status seekers as well as improved earning tiers.

My initial thought was that both my husband and I should apply. After all, this card isn’t a refresh of the existing Hyatt credit card, but instead a new product altogether. However, I decided to wait it out and apply maybe later this year due to the fact we both have several cards with Chase already. We also just applied for several airline cards to boost our stash of AA miles.

Why You Should Consider the World of Hyatt Credit Card

But, should you sign up for the new World of Hyatt credit card? While it’s certainly not for everyone, I think there are some notable benefits that could be of use to almost anyone who travels. Here are a few reasons you should at least consider signing up:

  • You get a big signup bonus. The 60K bonus is enough for two nights at a top tier Hyatt resort like the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome, which costs 30,000 points per night. Since Hyatt nights start at 5,000 points, you could also stretch this bonus quite far with stays at their lowest tier or even mid-tier properties.
  • It has a reasonable annual fee. While the annual fee isn’t waived the first year, paying $95 for this card seems very reasonable considering its first-year bonus and ongoing benefits.
  • New earning tiers. This new card lets you earn 4x points at Hyatt properties (not including the 5x base points you get as a Hyatt member) and 2x points on commuting including taxis and ridesharing, dining, and airline tickets purchased from an airline. You also get 2x points for spending on health clubs and gym memberships, which is a unique perk among rewards cards.
  • World of Hyatt is a Chase Ultimate Rewards partner. Since World of Hyatt is a Chase Ultimate Rewards partner, you can transfer Chase points to this program at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Free night each year. You get a free night at any Category 1-4 property for each year you have the card on your cardmember anniversary. You also get an additional free night at a Category 1-4 property if you spend $15,000 on your card during a single calendar year.
  • Automatic elite status. Getting this card gives you automatic World of Hyatt Discoverist status, which gives you access to premium internet, daily bottled water, a free night when you stay in 5 different Hyatt brands, upgrades to preferred rooms based on availability, expedited check-in, late checkout, waived resort fees on award stays, and more.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a hotel credit card and travel in destinations that have Hyatt hotels, this is a solid hotel credit card to consider. Just remember that getting this card can count against your 5/24 status with Chase, and that Hyatt’s hotel footprint is fairly small.

Did you apply for this card? Why or why not?
