“Nothing Short of Terrific”: A Sheraton Dallas Hotel Review

Recently, my husband and I went to Dallas, Texas for the first time to attend the financial bloggers conference known as FinCon. Our conference and entire five-night stay was at the Sheraton Dallas hotel. Our stay was nothing short of terrific, and I loved the hotel, its amenities, and its location.

Our Arrival at the Sheraton Dallas

Because our trip to Dallas was for business, we paid for our hotel stay at the Sheraton Dallas with real money. Since this is a Category 3 SPG property, however, you can book a room for 7,000 points per night and even get your fifth night free.

Our arrival at the hotel was simple and painless. We flew Southwest Airlines from Indianapolis to Dallas Love Field, so our trip to the downtown hotel was only 15-20 minutes long. Once we arrived, we jumped into the VIP check-in line for SPG Gold and Platinum guests. Since my husband has SPG Gold status from his Business Platinum Card from American Express, we try to take advantage of it when we can.

Luckily, his gold status qualified us for an upgrade to a Junior Suite. Our room was nice because we had a large sleeping area and a large living area with an L-shaped couch. We also had a full-sized desk, extra storage space, a mini-fridge, and an awesome view from the 27th floor.

Since we were staying five nights, it was really nice to have the extra room to spread out. Unfortunately, SPG Gold status did not get us club access or a welcome gift.

What I Liked About the Hotel

The fact the hotel was so spread out was a really important benefit for our conference, but I would like it as a regular traveler, too. The hotel featured lots of hallways with sitting areas, multiple restaurants, and a gift shop.

I also liked the fact you could take an interior walkway across the street. If you made it though a few different walking areas, you would eventually find yourself in a giant food court with cafes, a burrito bar, salad options, and Chinese food.

The internet also worked great in our room, and it was complimentary for our conference and due to our Gold status. Lastly, I liked the location of the hotel. It was downtown and a quick Uber ride to lots of restaurants and bars. Plus, it was close to the airport. I will say, however, that an Uber ride to the hotel was $14 while the advertised cab price back to the airport was advertised as a $40 fixed rate.

The Bottom Line

I would normally include a section on what I didn’t like about this hotel, but I don’t have a lot to say. The hotel was clean and spacious, and they gave me an upgraded room. I never visited the pool area so I don’t have any comments there. Overall, I think this is a solid hotel option if you’re staying in downtown Dallas, and the fact it’s only 7,000 starpoints per night is insane. With SPG’s 5th night free option, you could stay here five nights for just 28,000 points, after all.

If you’re curious about this hotel or the SPG program, you can also check out the Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express. This card makes it easy to rack up starpoints in a hurry, and the signup alone is enough for a five-night stay at this property and many others.

Have you ever been to Dallas? What is your favorite points hotel in the area?
