Five Reasons to Get the New Frontier Airlines Credit Card

Do you ever feel like you’ve earned the signup bonus on every airline credit card under the sun? I feel that way sometimes, but I also know there are programs I haven’t even touched yet.

One example is the Frontier Airlines rewards program. While Frontier Airlines flies out of my home airport, I have never flown with them before. I have also never earned miles in their program, nor have I had one of their co-branded credit cards.

Introducing the Updated Frontier Airlines World MasterCard

That’s why I was intrigued when I saw Frontier Airlines was launching a refreshed version of their airline credit card through Barclays. The new card details are as follows:

  • Earn 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $500 on your card within the first 90 days of account opening
  • Earn 5x miles per $1 spent on Frontier Airlines flights, 3x miles at restaurants, and 1 mile per $1 spent on other purchases
  • Earn a $100 flight voucher after every account anniversary after spending $2,500 or more on purchases made with your card during your membership year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Award redemption fee waiver
  • Use your card once every six months to keep miles from expiring
  • Free FICO score on your monthly statement
  • $79 annual fee

5 Reasons to Sign Up for the Frontier Airlines World MasterCard

If you’re in the market for a new airline credit card, the first thing you’ll want to do is make sure Frontier flies out of your home airport. Frontier flies within the U.S. and to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Canada, but they aren’t available at every major airport.

Once you determine you could use miles you earned in this program, here are five reasons to consider signing up:

  • The bonus could be enough for two round-trip flights. With many domestic round-trip flights costing 20,000 miles, the signup bonus on this card is often enough for two round-trips.
  • Low annual fee. Paying $79 for two round-trip flights is a steal.
  • Low minimum spending requirement. Where many airline and travel credit cards want you to spend thousands on your card within a few months to earn their signup bonus, this card only requires you to spend $500 in 90 days.
  • Pool miles with family. Frontier’s new family pooling option lets you pool miles with up to eight contributors.
  • You can earn elite status with Frontier through credit card spending alone. According to the Barclays press release, spending $20,000 on the card each calendar year to secure Elite20K status comes with benefits like a free carry-on bag and seat assignment. Spending $50,000 on the card to secure Elite50K status earns all the benefits from Elite20k Status plus family seating and seat assignment for the cardmember and eight traveling companions on the same reservation. To secure Elite100k status, you have to spend $100,000 on your card within a calendar year. This tier of status provides the WORKSSM bundle for the primary cardmember and up to eight traveling companions on the same reservation. Earning status with Frontier Airlines may not be worth it to you, but it’s still worth mentioning.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a new airline card to score free flights within the U.S. or to Mexico, Canada, or the Caribbean, make sure to explore Frontier Airlines and this new card’s offerings. You can read the press release and study the new card details here.
