The Credit Cards In My Wallet, 2018 Edition

With new credit cards getting introduced all the time and benefits changing on old cards, I try to take a regular look at the credit cards I regularly carry to make sure that I’m carrying the cards that get me the biggest return on my spending. Here are the credit cards in my wallet in 2018.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is my go to card for travel and dining purchases. It offers 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on those purchases and 1 Ultimate Reward point per dollar spent on all other purchases (which I don’t use it for). I also love the I get Priority Pass lounge access with the CSR, especially since there’s a priority pass restaurant in Denver, my home airport.

Fidelity 2% Cash Back Visa

The Fidelity 2% Cash Back Visa (in addition to the next card on this list) is one of my go to cards for spending that otherwise isn’t bonused with a different card. While I do generally prefer to earn points instead of cash back, it is sometimes nice to get a little cash back bonus, and 2% is the way to do it. Fidelity also sends out spending offers on occasion that makes this card even better than 2% back, so I always keep my eye out for those.

American Express Blue Business Plus

The American Express Blue Business Plus Card earns 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on the first $50,000 in purchases each year. For my personal purchases, I don’t get anywhere near that limit, so this card is also the one I use to make my quarterly estimated tax payments and I’ll use it for any reselling or reimbursable expenses I have.

Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom offers quarterly rotating categories, and that’s all I use this card for. Last quarter, I was able to max out the $1,500 5X Ultimate Rewards limit since PayPal was the quarterly rotating category, and there are a lot of things that can be paid for with PayPal. This quarter you’ll earn 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on purchases at gas stations, Walgreens, and Lyft rides.

Discover IT

The Discover IT card is also a card offering quarterly rotating categories, only instead of earning 5X Ultimate Rewards, you’ll earn 5% cash back on the first $1,500 in purchases. I also like to max this bonus out when I can for a nice $75 cash back bonus each quarter. This quarter you’ll earn 5% cash back with your Discover IT card on restaurant purchases.

Those are the cards in my wallet right now! What cards do you have in your wallet that I’m missing?
