Should You Go For Hyatt’s Elite Globalist Status?

With the recent Marriott-Starwood merger, many loyalists have searched for refuge in Hyatt’s World of Hyatt loyalty program. Its top-tier elite status—Globalist—has a number of benefits that make it intriguing to road warriors like club access and suite upgrades.

However, are the benefits worth staying at Hyatt properties worth staying 60 nights to achieve? I’ll dive in in this article, discussing the benefits and whether and giving you pros and cons of Hyatt Globalist status.

Remember, only you can decide if Hyatt Globalist status is right for your travel needs. Examine how often you plan to stay at Hyatt properties, and whether or not their properties are close to where your travels take you.

Let’s dive in!

Why Hyatt Globalist Status is Worth it

Here are some of the pros of Hyatt Globalist status. Depending on how often you stay at Hyatt hotels, these benefits may net you hundreds of dollars in value.

Unlimited Club Access or Breakfast

Globalist customers get complimentary Club access when staying at hotels that have a Club, and free breakfast at hotels that don’t. This benefit alone can be worth thousands of dollars a year as Clubs offer free food, alcoholic beverages, and soft drinks.

The breakfast benefit is great too. According to Hyatt, breakfast includes an entree, coffee and juice, and all taxes and gratuities for two adults and two children. Sometimes this benefit even includes room service (depending on the hotel).

4:00 pm Check-Out

Globalists can check-out of their hotel room at 4:00pm. This is a big improvement over the standard 11:00 am check-out time, and can come in handy when you have a late flight home.

Four Suite Upgrade Awards Every 60 Nights

Hyatt awards Globalists four suite upgrades after staying 60 nights. This is a great upgrade to have, as it takes you from a standard room to a suite in advance. You will receive four of these certificates at qualification and four more every time you re-qualify.

Priority Access at Early Check In

You’re given priority access to available rooms when checking in early. This can be a huge plus when flying in on an early flight.

Complimentary Parking on Free Night Awards

Your parking is free when staying at a Hyatt on Free Night Award. Considering the price of parking in many big cities, this benefit can save you hundreds of dollars in one trip alone.

Two United Club Passes

Hyatt sends Globalists two United Club certificates upon qualification. This gets you access to any United Club for a day, useful for flight delays or other times when you want to relax before your flight.

Note: United sometimes restricts access to the United Club during peak hours or during construction. I don’t count this as a mark against Hyatt Globalist, but it may make your free passes harder to use.

Standard Suite Upgrades When Available

Globalists can be upgraded all the way up to a Standard Suite at check-in. These aren’t guaranteed but are a nice treat when they clear.

Waived Resort Fees

Staying at a resort? Hyatt Globalists don’t pay resort fees on paid or Free Night bookings.

M Life Gold Status

Hyatt Globalists are given complimentary M Life Gold status at MGM properties. This is especially useful for people that frequent Vegas, Atlantic City, and Macau.

Award Stays Count Towards Qualification

Earlier this year, Hyatt made Free Night award stays count towards elite status qualification. This is a good change to see at Hilton, Starwood, and others have offered this benefit for years.

Why Hyatt Globalist Status Isn’t Worth it

Hyatt Globalist isn’t perfect though. Here are a few cons to Globalist that may make the status not worth it.

Free Breakfast is Limited

Unfortunately, breakfast is limited to two adults and two children. Even worse, there’s no official cutoff for “children”, so it’s up to the hotel to determine who is and isn’t a child.

Free Parking is Limited to Free Nights and Certain Hotels

Free parking only applies to Free Night stays at hotels that let you charge parking to the room. This seems oddly limited, and is something we wish that would apply to every Hyatt stay.

Bottom Line

All in all, Hyatt Globalist offers attractive benefits to road warriors. If you stay at Hyatt properties enough to qualify, there’s no doubt you’ll get your money’s worth out of Globalist status. But as always, consider how often you stay at Hyatt properties and whether or not you like the Hyatt experience before chasing status.
