In early December, I went to the Dutch island of Curacao for the first time. I really loved the experience, and I had a ton of fun. I was also very happy with my hotels of choice, which included the Hilton Curacao and the Sunscape Curacao all-inclusive resort.
Since I have around 250,000 Hilton points and plan to sign up for the new Hilton Aspire credit card after the new year, I’ve really had my eye on the Hilton Curacao for a while. I knew it was on a beautiful beach, for starters. And I knew it had a good location on near downtown and the airport on the island’s southern shore.
Rooms at the Hilton Curacao are also inexpensive, starting at around $144 USD per night – or just 34,000 Hilton points per night for a family of four. With 250,000 Hilton Honors points and Hilton’s 5th night free promotion, I could stay at this hotel forever (not really, but you get the point).
Checking into the Hilton Curacao
Checking into the Hilton Curacao was a very uneventful affair. It was probably 4:00 p.m. when I checked in, and nobody was at the front counter. I was greeted with a fruity drink and a cold towel, checked into my room, and given a key and a Wi-Fi code.
My room on the fourth floor (Room 421) was ideally situated near the elevator with a large beachfront balcony. I had a large king bed, lots of room to walk around, and a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower.
While the room itself was standard, I really loved the size of the balcony. It was huge! I also had a really awesome view of the gorgeous beach below.
Speaking of the beach, the Hilton Curacao beach is small but gorgeous. Considering the hotel has less than 200 rooms, I found the beach spacious and inviting. The water was clear and there were hardly any waves, so it was great for kids. The hotel also has a dive shop and a very large pool with an infinity end that overlooks the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Dining at Hilton Curacao
I got breakfast for free in my room rate at the Hilton Curacao, and I found it to be sufficient. It was buffet-style with all the stuff you’d expect – an omelet station, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, and yogurt, along with breakfast meats. They also had a mimosa station. I really liked the breakfast selection, but then again, it’s hard to mess up breakfast.
I only had dinner at the hotel once, but it was good. We ate at the Italian restaurant right off the lobby. Most of all, I loved the local beer – Amstel Bright. It tastes like a mixture of Sprite and beer to me, and I drank them at the hotel and everywhere else.
The Hilton Curacao also had a beachfront bar and restaurant that served drinks, seafood, and small plate fare. While I planned to go there, I didn’t have time. They did seem to have a lot of specials going on pairing buckets of beer with appetizers, however.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a Caribbean option with Hilton, I would definitely recommend the Hilton Curacao. The only downside to the hotel is that it only has a handful of restaurants. But then again, Curacao has so many great places to eat you probably don’t want to be limited to your hotel anyway.
Personally, I can’t wait to go back. The island itself is beautiful, and this hotel can’t be beat in terms of price and quality.
Have you been to the Hilton Curacao? What is your favorite Hilton property in the Caribbean?
