The Four Points Redemptions I’m Really Looking Forward to This Year

We’re already well into 2018, and that means that it’s getting closer to some of the awesome points redemptions I made this year! Since I have a lot of flexibility in my travel plans, I don’t rely on points as much as I once did. I’m able to take advantage of a lot of the great sale fares and I really like having a kitchen when I’m going to be somewhere for more than a few days, so I usually opt for an Airbnb instead of a hotel.

Nevertheless, I always end up with at least a couple of decent points redemptions each year. Here’s what I’m most looking forward to that I booked with points!

1. Flying on my first A350

I’ll be heading back from Australia right before Christmas and was amazingly able to get two seats in business class for only 80,000 United miles per person! It’s definitely not the most direct way home, but I’m pretty excited about it anyway.

We will be flying two legs on Thai Airways, one on their A350, and the longhaul leg on Air Canada’s B777. I’ve also never flown Air Canada in business class, so even though it’s not usually considered to be the best of the best, I think it will still be awesome to check out (and it’s definitely better than booking a cash fare in economy, which is what I though I was going to have to do!).

2. Roomers Baden-Baden, Marriott Autograph Collection

I love Marriotts Hotel + Air packages, but sometimes I find it easier to use the airline miles than the hotel certificate. Last year I stayed for seven nights at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc from a Hotel + Air certificate, and this year I decided that the Roomers Baden-Baden looked like a good option. I’ll be staying there for a week in early September. There’s supposed to be some good mountain biking and hiking nearby, so I’m sure I’ll be doing some of that. If any of you have tips for things to do in the area please let me know in the comments!

3. Flying from Havana to El Salvador

Not the most exciting flight of all time, but I love when I have weird flights to add to my flight memory map. I booked this flight for 11,000 LifeMiles and it was my first booking with LifeMiles. I’m going to Cuba as part of an international consulting course to finish up my MBA, and while none of it, other than my departure flight, was booked with points, it’s going to be an awesome time.

4. More Companion Pass Flying

I’m in the home stretch of my Southwest Companion Pass. I earned it in March 2017 which means that it’s good until the end of December of 2018. I’m planning to book a good number of domestic trips so that we can make some good use of it in it’s final months! Hopefully it will still be possible to easily earn the companion pass in 2019.

Are there any points bookings you’re excited about in the rest of 2018?
